De beste ideeën voor het maken van Halloween-content

It's almost that time again: Halloween is coming! The scariest time of the year also calls for a creepy vibe in your content. The general impression is that you have to spend a lot of money on props to create Halloween-themed content. However, this doesn't have to be the case. In this blog post, we'll give you some ideas on how to easily give your Halloween content a spooky feel.

Navigate quickly

1. Make an object come out of the ground

You see it in horror movies sometimes: zombies emerging from their graves. Super creepy, like walking through a cemetery and suddenly a hand appears. You can easily recreate this concept yourself!

What do you need?

  • Two tables/platforms of the same height (keep in mind that you must be able to sit underneath them)
  • Some (potting) soil (from outside)
  • Some dark paper/garbage bags
  • A Bluetooth remote .

How do you proceed?

  1. First, place the tables next to each other so that you can still fit between them. You can then use dark paper or garbage bags to make the surface unobtrusive and hang it as a backdrop. Once you've done this, place some ground on both tables.
  2. Position your camera level with the tables so you can't see the gap between them. The front table (as seen from your camera's perspective) can have a slightly higher layer of ground to enhance the "rising from the ground" effect. Check to what extent the layer of ground is visible from your camera's perspective.
  3. Once you're happy with the setup, sit on the floor between the tables. Insert your hand through the slot, making it appear as if your hand is emerging from the ground! Using the Bluetooth remote, you can actually take photos.

By following these steps, you can completely recreate the scene. You can also play with lighting or use a smoke machine for a scarier effect. Now your hand looks just like a zombie in a horror movie.

2. Create scary shadows

During Halloween, you can create many spooky effects with shadows. Because you can only see shapes, you can activate your viewers' imaginations by letting them imagine what the actual owner of the shapes is. By cleverly positioning your lamp and using good figures, you can create a cool effect across the image.

What do you need?

  • A lamp to put the central object in the spotlight
  • Something to create shadows (in our case, branches from outside)
  • A dark environment
  • (Possibly a Bluetooth remote )

How do you get started?

  1. First, place your camera and the object you want to photograph where you want. From a different angle, set up your light.
  2. Then, once everything is in place, hold the branches (or another object) in front of the light so that it's not visible in your camera shot. Ideally, a shadow will now appear on the object you're spotlighting. If you're alone and holding the shadow object yourself, you can take the photos remotely using a Bluetooth remote.

This idea might be a bit simpler, but it's certainly no less fun than the others. You have plenty of room to play with shadows: instead of outdoor twigs, you could also use clippings of bats or your hand. Let your imagination run wild.

3. Make your objects float

It creates a creepy effect when objects appear to move on their own, as the viewer can't predict their next move. This effect is very easy to recreate: read on to learn how.

What do you need?

  • Fishing line
  • A tripod or assistant to hold the fishing line
  • A setting with a dark or green background
  • A simple editing program

How do you get started?

  1. Tie the fishing line to your object in such a way that when you let the object hang, it does so in the desired manner.
  2. Set up your assistant or tripod so they can hold the fishing line. As the photographer, you can adjust or instruct how to position it to best capture the subject. Thanks to your background, it doesn't matter if the fishing line is visible.
  3. Once your photos are completely to your liking, edit them in a simple editing program (like Canva). Remove the fishing line and add any desired effects.

Since this idea is quick to implement, feel free to play around with camera settings, different objects, and the use of multiple fishing lines. This effect also works well with video: have your assistant move the object slowly for an even more exciting result.

4. Hand out of the wall

You sometimes see this in horror movies too: a zombie reaching through a wall or window to grab you. This is also easy to recreate and can create a gripping effect!

What do you need?

How do you get started?

  1. First, position the camera.
  2. Then hang up the large sheet of paper, making sure there's enough room for you to stand behind it. Cut a small hole for your hand to fit through.
  3. Take a look at the camera to see if you can see the location of the hole.
  4. Once everything is set up correctly, stand behind the paper and push your hand through the hole. With your other hand, use the Bluetooth remote to take multiple photos. Now you've got some awesome shots of your hand coming through the wall.

We've just covered the basics, but in principle, there are many possibilities. For example, hold an object, ask a few friends to help you place multiple hands through the paper, or use green paper to enhance its color. Also, use light to highlight your hand(s).

5. Witches' Cauldron

Witches are an essential part of Halloween. Many people associate witches with a flying broom; to recreate this effect, use the third idea ("Let your objects float"). Another important part of a witch's identity is making all sorts of potions in a cauldron: and that's a fantastic idea. Below, you can read how to make a cauldron yourself.

What do you need?

  • An object emerging from the witches' cauldron
  • A container that functions as a witches' cauldron (the bigger your object, the better the result)
  • A smoke machine
  • An assistant or fishing line

How do you get started?

  1. Make sure your cauldron is positioned correctly in the frame. Keep in mind that there needs to be some space above the cauldron in your shot, as the object is coming from it.
  2. First, place your object in the cauldron. Ideally, the object should fit completely inside the cauldron. Once the object is inside, fill the rest of the cauldron with smoke. The smoke should remain there as long as you don't blow into it or move near it.
  3. Once the camera is fully configured and ready to shoot, quickly fish the object out of the cauldron with fishing line, or have your assistant quickly retrieve it. This creates a cloud of smoke beneath the object, giving the illusion of it emerging from the cauldron.

This might not work the first time. The idea is quite simple to implement, so feel free to try it several times to get the desired result. Keep in mind that using a lot of smoke can cause objects to become damp and may set off your smoke alarm.

Conclusion

With a few simple steps, you can quickly create awesome Halloween content without a big budget or complex setups. Keep it compact: focus on your lighting, choose a camera angle that enhances the effect, and use your Bluetooth remote for precise timing. Work iteratively: take a test shot, evaluate the result, and adjust small details until the image is perfect. Stay true to your own style; it's that personal touch that makes the final result stand out. We'd love to see what you create: post your result online and tag us @mojogear when you share it.
